Power 98 FM 15th Birthday @ Timbre Mobile East Coast Park

What a great party on Saturday last weekend. It was a night of great food, party, music, company and crazy conversations. :) I had a great time connecting with all our listeners of Power 98fm who took the time and effort to come down and celebrate our birthday with us.

15 years is certainly a landmark and we had prizes which we gave away and a MASSIVE b-day cake as well. I stuffed my face silly with the Power pizza and the power wings as well. Too hot, gotta run for shelter, gotta run for shade.

Flute

The sweet treats was wonderful.. Pavalova and chocolate warm cake. :)

Had brunch on Saturday at Flute at Fort Cannings. Lovely black and white colonial house an it is well worth the money and the value. :) Highly recommended if you like a PS cafe type chillax venue but betta. More obsure and slightly off the beaten restaurant track.

Bubbles Bust!

That reminds me of all the times where we have high hopes and expectations of life. Or let's put it this way high hopes on our friends and other people whom we believe should behave and act in a certain way in accordance to what we have "set" since we would act that very same way too. Well that is the ultimate bullshit right? To bust our bubble. Truth be told, we cannot expect anything from anyone 'cept from self innit? But it's tough as you give of your love you except the same in action in transaction. To seal the deal to display your loyalty and commitment. Bubbles bust. It's a given. But what is beautiful about this photo that there is grace in the bubble being bust. Because then, truth be told, painful as it is. It is only that way because it does not live up to one's own fancy expectation. So tough as it is not having things our way, it sheds light on what is true and real. Tie it down sista and keep it real! hope you like this picture as much as I do.

PRONK

Today's unword is really interesting. :)

It's pronk.

We introduce an interesting word to add to your vocab everyday and this one sounds a little like prick so it is an easy one to remember. It also kinda describes someone who is not all that together and intelligent. An idiot really who does not what's what's in short, An all purpose nonsense word ideal for alternative swearing.

But this is what Free Dictionary said it actually can be used otherwise

Verb 1. pronk - jump straight up; "kangaroos pronk"
bound, jump, leap, spring - move forward by leaps and bounds; "The horse bounded across the meadow"; "The child leapt across the puddle"; "Can you jump over the fence?"

FORBES TOP EARNING DEAD CELEBRITIES

During the morning show, Harry brought this up which I thought was really interesting. Even after they are six feet under, they still have earning power. So that begs the question. Who is benefiting from this? Your loved ones and family? it has to be said that someone is singing to the tune of all this millions while the RIP has nothing to say... Well it was Halloween just 2 days ago.

Fresh Air for Woman @ ViVO CITY

So I have been hosting for Fresh Air for Woman at Vivo City and it has an eye opening experience. For starters, the launch of the skin care product called "ASH" is an innovative never been seen before. Why? Because all the ingrendients and minerals are made of cigarette ash.

The message to all ladies out there is that why should you spend top dollar for facials? expensive skin care products if you do inhale smoke. Smoke contains nicotine, tar, amomnia and even hydrogen cynanide is akin to using foundation with just these chemicals to slap on your face.

What a clever way to send the message out to ladies. I will be back with photo updates!

Rock 4 rocked it out

Something I did on Friday night which turned out to be better than expected. :) I went to watch ROCK 4 a dutch acapella group and was pleasantly surprised. They were playing at the Esplanade Recital Studio and were going cover famous Rock songs. I thought that it would be cheesy and maybe at best slightly entertaining.

But it was really really good. The lead singer really brought it home with his slightly eccentric and humorous remarks and even more impressive vocals. I mean this guy can do Queen and that is no mean feat. Leadsinger Luc Devens rocks things out and his presence makes the group and carries an attitude that is remarkably memorable and mind blowing. Love his presence. Now that is X factor and his buddies in the group seem to appreciate his nature and banter very well together. The on stage chemistry is very tight and I love it how they talk like great old friends as they made fun of each other. My recommedation if they are touring your city.

FIF - Finally it's Friday

Came into ... wait check that. I lugged meself to the studio this morning and my parnder Harry said, FIF. Caught my attention for a second till he explained the obvious Finally it's Friday.

So loads of things to be grateful for. This is an article that i read... and it is rather sobering because this happens in REAL life. I took the information off team rich wordpress and it is information that is very useful.

Do You Have A Cancer Personality?
Cancer cells are always present in our bodies. All it needs is a stimuli to trigger vicious growth. Cancer cells are actually healthy cells that “go haywire” under certain conditions. This could be caused by a physical stimuli like the exposure to certain foods or substances. Or it could be emotional one. When almost all of the mind’s resources is diverted to coping with the emotional onslaught, it let’s up it vigilance in fighting or controlling cellular damage. If the mind provides scant resources to the body’s defense mechanism i.e. the immune system, disease will have a free reign to take over the body.

Studies have shown that People with the following Personality Traits or Background have a greater Risk of Cancer:
Suffers traumatic events like personal loss such as a death or a divorce, loss of a job or money, moving to another location etc;
Harbors long-suppressed toxic emotions such as anger, resentment and/or hostility. Typically the cancer-susceptible individual internalizes such emotions and has great difficulty expressing them;
Exhibits an obsessive tendency toward carrying other people’s burdens or trying to please or getting others’ approval;
Type A Personality i.e. one who reacts adversely to stress or gets easily upset, often being unable to cope with the stress. Blow off steam if you must, but don’t carry it around with you;
Inability to resolve deep-seated emotional problems and conflicts, usually arising in childhood, often even being unaware of their presence.
Unable to “move on” i.e. finding closure for long standing problems or unable to turn to grieve to relief themselves from their emotional problems;
Feel that they have lost control of their lives, feel helpless and are unable to cope with daily living, or have low self-worth;
Don’t have interesting things to look forward to each day;
These feelings or traits are often calls for help, warning signs, telling you to slow down and take stock of your emotional situation.

What you can do if you have a Cancer Personality:
Workout in the gym;
Don’t over-drink to cope with stress. Hiding your fears and grief in drugs, alcohol, sweet or fat foods will not relieve your situation, but will damage your body;
Walking or jogging;
Finding a friend you can confide in;
Hire a therapist who will listen to you;
Get an interesting hobby to take you mind off your own troubles;
Look at the brighter side of life;
Get a pet;
Do Charity or Community work like volunteer helping the sick, elderly, poor or the helpless;
Start an activity that you have always wanted to do but have put off;
Stay Positive like Randy Pausch. Be Yourself – just kick out the bad stuff.

This is good advice. And if you dont know Randy Pausch ... google and you tube him. He died of pancreatic cancer but had such a great attitude that he made his last lecture on oprah. His story moves me to tears.

I guess the lesson is don't sweat the small stuff... which is easier said than done.But sometimes... these are the little things and we make a fuss over them when it is the big picture which we should be concerned with. I think to a certain extent many people can realte to the article above. My personal take...I reckon it is time to reaccess my emotions and get real with myself. So the moral of the story is if you feel the anger let it be felt and god knows the anger surging through my VEINS when I get into a fight. Then just to be all blase, I just say nothing is wrong when I JUST WANT TO SCREAM. okie. I think I will SCREAM the next time. better out than in and better for my health.

Ploop Ploop Poopie POP

This hit me straight in the gut. Let's talk poopie time. It is something that everyone does...it is something that makes some uncomfortable but it is essentially essential for good health. How you poopie your dookie and create the symphony of magic music, Ploop Ploop Ploop can determine how healthy your life is.

I know that my acne reacts, allergies develop and all other annoying bloatedness etc. when I dont go enough. I reckon it's time to clean up my life, it is time for me to make commitments to clean up my guts. It is a bit strange to declare it and announce my gut cleasning activites but this might make you think twice about your own before kicking back 2 large lagers.

So like the rest of the world, I had enough of being told to eat your greens and fruits as it is good for you and exercise... blah blah.. I was looking for something that was not the old cliche thoughtless blabbering to sound the preacher's wife. I was inspired by this article and it made think.. or made my gut think.

Here's an excerpt from an article on The Huffington Post.

How Your Gut Keeps You Healthy or Makes You Ill

The health of your gut determines what nutrients are absorbed and what toxins, allergens, and microbes are kept out. First, there are bugs in your gut that form a diverse and interdependent ecosystem like a rainforest. In fact, there are 500 species and 3 pounds of bacteria in your gut which form a HUGE chemical factory that helps you digest your food, regulate hormones, excrete toxins, and produce vitamins and other healing compounds that keep your gut and your body healthy.

This ecosystem of friendly bacteria must be in balance for you to be healthy.

Too many of the wrong bacteria, like parasites and yeasts, or not enough of the good ones, like Lactobacillus or Bifidobacteria, can seriously damage your health.

Second, there is your gut-immune system. Your entire immune system -- and the rest of your body -- is protected from the toxic environment in your gut by a lining that is only ONE cell-thick layer. If spread out, this lining would take up a surface area the size of a tennis court, and the entire thing is covered by a sewer!

If that barrier is damaged, you can become allergic to foods you may normally be able to digest perfectly well, you will get sick, your immune system will become overactive, and it will begin producing inflammation throughout your body.

Third, there is your second brain -- your gut's nervous system. Did you know your gut, actually contains MORE neurotransmitters than your brain? In fact, the gut has a brain of its own. Messages constantly travel back and forth between your gut-brain and your head-brain, and when those messages are interfered with in any way your health will suffer.

Fourth, your gut also has to get rid of all the toxins produced as byproducts of your metabolism, which your liver dumps into bile. If things get backed up when you are constipated, you will become toxic and your health will suffer.

And last but not least, your gut must break down all the food you eat into its individual components, separate out the vitamins and minerals, and shuttle everything across the one cell-thick layer mentioned above so it can get into your bloodstream and nourish your body and brain.

What do you wake up too?

Here's an interesting story that really inspired me this morning.

This story first ran on the BBC News Website.

"Around the world millions of children are not getting a proper education because their families are too poor to afford to send them to school. In India, one schoolboy is trying change that.

At 16 years old, Babar Ali must be the youngest headmaster in the world. He's a teenager who is in charge of teaching hundreds of students in his family's backyard, where he runs classes for poor children from his village.

The story of this young man from Murshidabad in West Bengal is a remarkable tale of the desire to learn amid the direst poverty. "

Waking up in the morning, mourning and groaning about even having to get up at all is quite the norm for millions of us.

I know that my life has changed since getting on the morning show cause I have to make it to the office by 5:30am. Now,I wonder if I have what it takes to even match the intestinal fortitude of this young man. He not only makes use of what he has to help over 800 children in his community and pass on the much needed knowledge but also manages to do his household chores.

In a modern world where teenagers are taught to pursue the most glamorous items and seek to amass never-ending material products, this boy is affecting change and really making a difference. I could take a lesson... just when I think I am doing loads. Think again, what is it all for and all about? The daily panic and dashing about? It's time to rethink what you wake up for today.

Ris Low Risk Losing All

So it is all over the press and on the news. Harry and I had to include this piece of news on our radio show as our listeners had a lot to say about it.

So if you have not been on the shores of Singapore recently, this is what happened in a nutshell. Miss Ris Low, Miss World Singapore was fist slammed for her poor command of English and following that a credit card fraud conviction was exposed.

She is 19 years old and is a young offender. As a teenager, the magnitude of this epsiode will surely be rather upsetting and tramautic for her. Especially since it came out in the press that she is diagnosed with Bio-polar.

My take? Her command of Enlgish is a reflection of what society is and a mirror onto what happens on a day to day basis. Her credit card fraud? Well, people make mistakes and Humanity is never as beautiful as when forgiveness is being practised. We had some interesting texts that I would like to share

TEXT 1 - LETS face it Ris Low will not bring back d titled crown 4 Spore in Dec. She wont b sorely missed if she's replaced. She will 'win' by startg 2 b honest within. I was a victim of credit card fraud. I was livid when it happened 2 me. Ris Low has 2 face d music.

TEXT 2 - SHE said she has managed to slip thru a few pageants but e past will always catch up with u. she shd know dat honesty is e best policy n I hope she will learn fm tis episode n try to come out a better person. I sincerely wish she can try to move on n all e be

TEXT 3 - BOOMZ is passe... I tink we should aim our cannons at Singapore Idiot for his screw up on our National Anthem !! :) Have a nice day !

TEXT 4 - RIS to her detractors:"Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I am not perfect & I don't live to be, but before you start pointing fingers... Make sure your hands are clean." Bob Marley

TEXT 5 - e kind soul who mntioned abt yellow ribbon prjct.. Thts purely singpre's bt nt @ international level.

TEXT 6 - OH please Miss Low Risk (punt intented) shouldnt even be winning any price, for her intelligence matches her face. Did she win as the others are worse? Heck there shouldnt even be a miss universe/world competition as it devalues women's equality.

TEXT 7- SHE has made a wise decision. Its better for her past to be revealed now than to be exposed during the international level. She would be disqualified then.

TEXT 8 - A message miss low, welcome to the real world. lesson 1 you may try to hide the truth but you should never denz. lesson 2 owning the crown comes with huge responsibilities aod clearly she cant deliver. hopefully she can take sumthing positive from this whole thing

TEXT 9 - AHHH, finally Ris Low decided to do the responsible thing!

TEXT 10 - WHAT happen to yellow ribbon that we sporean says gives others a second chance. What is done is done. Its 50 50 fault.

TEXT 11 - I think tt it's good that she resigned. She isn't just a former convict, to put it blindly. She is a convict who is still serving her term. If she gets to travel overseas on the basis tt she is a ms spore world, i think it's double standard to the max

TEXT 12 - COME on S'poreean. Come off yr high horses to err is human to 4give divine. Ris needs all the support at this very moment in time n not condemnation, the one to b blame is the organiser.

TEXT 13 - HARRY n g.i think miss loh in the first place should knw better herself nt to take part in the peageant Cause she herself knws she gt bi-pola.n wasted alot of monies n time.mr.tang

TEXT 14 - THE problem is singaporeans just love to complain. Why slam ris low publicly? Its our own fault that our miss universe/world's standards are so low. We don't support the pageants here, and there is a stigma of sorts attached to contestants. There are many gor

TEXT 15 - (...) 'Singaporeans did not pay for her' is just being defensive right from the get-go. As for Ris? She's got questions to answer, starting from how she wasn't as truthful as the rules required, but nevertheless was victimised in this whole issue. Let her qu

TEXT 16 - SINGAPOREANS have no compassion. We see the bad in others but not ourselves. +

TEXT 17 - WE are not a forgiving society are we?

TEXT 18 - QUESTION is whether her past makes any material diff to her candidacy. I think not. Where is the second chance?

TEXT 19 - METHINKS the organisers have been really irresponsible in this whole brouhaha, going by the kinds of answers they're reported to have given in the wake of the various discoveries. Seriously, to say something like 'Singaporeans did not pay for her' is just being de

Post F1 ....Innit?

F1 rocks had great content but poor organisers. No doubt peaked for me at the Saturday concert. Zz-top were playing before they did and I was flabbergasted to see oldies clutching their beers complete with beer buddies/bellies and preppy shorts and shirts shaking their tail feathers to these seeminly fashionable trendy Amish rockers took the stage.

Time check, it was an obviously a time trap or a morph that descended upon Fort Canning Park. Because it was music that I certainly did not get at all.

a) did the sycronised side stepping as they played the guitar
b) Harley Davidson Handle Bar Music
c) the hat that covered their face
d) the bread that covered their face
e) the sunglasses that covered their face
f) the music which all wounded the same in the same length and breath for over an hr.

Loved

a) the amish get up
b) the middle aged man and woman who were revived and brought back to their childhood

but check it when No Doubt came on.. It was the FLOW as described by Professor martin Seligman. Time stood still for me and like the middle aged bellies, I was transported instantly to over ten years ago. It was like being a young teenager all over again! It was a birthday treat for my brother to head on down to the no Doubt concert for his birthday as well and it went down as one of the best concerts ever.

a) Gwen Stefani rocked it out in a midriff (a.k.a in the ninties)
b) The full No doubt band kept things fresh by being more pronounced versions of themselves
c) Gwen's ABS, Attitude and Staminia
d) Live singing was even better than the record

All in in... this F1 was more about the music than cars for me. I went to the qualifers on Saturday...but the stars that shone on stage did it more for me than the vvrrooommm vrrooommm.

Last Min ROCKS!

So get this! :)) I have got last minute Free tickets to the F1 Rock Concert and the race on Saturday.

This came about when my parder on the Radio Show, Harry and I declared it and owned it that we were going to the race on air. Basically asking for free tiks.

Funnily enough, the tickets came in a way that was almost divine intervention. I am going to start proclaiming it and declaring it onto the world!

xoxoxo

YES I receive the good in my life and ask for the most benevolent outcome. Will update when i am in the concert!

Positive What?

So you wake up today... do you remember what are your first thought? What position in bed did you get up from? what you were dreaming the night before?

Today in History is the day that Dr. Sigmund Freud passed away in 1939. Obviously, his contribution to the field of psychology was great. I reckon diving into your sub-conscious mind will give you more in sight and clarity to what you are and what you do.

Just 2 nights away I dreamt that about 20 women were pregnant and ready to give birth. I then witness the birth of one and as dreams go... bizarrely as they do. This woman had a 10 year old pop out ... another ex-colleague who bore another fruit.

No I do not want babies. Rather on the dream interpretations, it means that a project, a highly anticipated event is happening and it is of importance to the dreamer. Personally, I relate and resonated with that a lot more and that totally explained my emotional disposition at that point in time.

But that is anther branch of psychology which is gaining popularity and that is Positive Psychology.

Martin Segliman - The God Father of Positive Psychology

This Spiel is from Wikipedia about the three building blocks on Positive Psychology

Research into the Pleasant Life, or the "life of enjoyment", examines how people optimally experience, forecast, and savor the positive feelings and emotions that are part of normal and healthy living (e.g. relationships, hobbies, interests, entertainment, etc.).

For me that would mean either eating a beautiful ice-cream, going out to sea and the beach. HOLIDAYS!!!

The study of the Good Life, or the "life of engagement", investigates the beneficial affects of immersion, absorption, and flow that individuals feel when optimally engaged with their primary activities. These states are experienced when there is a positive match between a person's strength and the task they are doing, i.e. when they feel confident that they can accomplish the tasks they face.

The flow is a great indicator of enjoyment and time not being there at all. It happens for me when I am reading good book or doing hot yoga in a 42 degree Celsius.

Inquiry into the Meaningful Life, or "life of affiliation", questions how individuals derive a positive sense of well-being, belonging, meaning, and purpose from being part of and contributing back to something larger and more permanent than themselves (e.g. nature, social groups, organizations, movements, traditions, belief systems).

Doing something that is outside of your self, your agenda and give of yourself to causes, social or whatever rocks your world for the local community.

Check the three things above and deposit into your positive psychology banks and outweight the negative emotions.

:) Negative emotions are here to teach us something about ourselves too but it is when we get too booged down form them that is when it ends up Owning us.

Own your emotions and be happier because no one is responsible for them.

This is a wonderful talk by Professor Martin Seligman.

useless piece of information

Firstly, in my quest of blog-sphere, I must say that I am pretty impressed with this girl's quest. This Taiwanese girl made it her mission to kiss 100 men in Paris and she attracted like over a million visitors. Big up smooching fes...I reckon her life is pretty interesting Mastication Precipitation.

So if i had a quest what would it be? I dunno someting pretty fun, useless and frivolous. If you got a brain wave then dial into the my Theta waves in my state of REM tonight.

So useless stuff, like turtles breathe through their butts while pearls melt in venegar. I got a bucket ful of sunshine and a snail can sleep for 3 years. If i had to document a mission of sorts, it will probably stem from my passion and love for travelling.

I don't think I will have the intestinal fortitude to snog 100 lippers but maybe ... a collage or snippet of interview from 100 men, quick cuts on what they reckon makes a good kisser.

Of Molds and F 1 Falvio

Molds. Molds. and more molds.

If you dont acknowledge them you dont see them. But if you look hard enough they seem to be eveywhere.

Pino, my walien friend,:) just moved into a new apartment and boy when I opened the door there was a smell that hit my nose. It was indescribable pungent moldy, mildew-ish-like growing and festering up my nostrils.

So armed with cleaning agents, he swiped the whole day down spotless. So this was something that I hadn't thought about until I experienced it.

It could also happen in your car and under the seats and other cloth surfaces. this reminds me of a "smelly horrible whiff" when I opened my other friend's car. A preliminary cleaning agent used is vinegar and water. Remember that mold or mildew can even be a health hazard and can potentially make your allergies act up, so it's important to get it out of the car as quick as possible.

K, that's my health tip for the day.

I reckon given that the F1 cars don't actually possess cloth fabric, it might not have, moldy surfaces. Actually hey, the moldy old Flavio Briatore probably be the most fermented being at this time closing in on the 2009 F1 night race in Singapore.

He just stepped down and did not contest allegations that Renault scandal that the
F1 race in 2008 was rigged when Nelson Piquet crashed at turn 17.

Guess there are moles everywhere if you look hard enough
