First Day First Taste

If new beginnings were to signify anything, it might be a period of examining past ideas or values and that would potentially point to the direction of Change. So much of that message is packed in President's Obama exciting promise of delivering "Change" more stimulating than the actual stimulus plan so you better believe that it can be exciting, invigorating, scary, fun and daunting all at the same length and breath of a sentence. What a freaking long sentence that was. Though this blog topic is inspired by my first day at work in Radio land as a producer/presenter but I am the queen of side bar comments and I obviously would digress.

The first taste of anything beyond any peradventure of doubt is that you can get all wet and wrong with raising expectations and yet at the same time feel the duality of the situation by being high, dry and suspended in mid air of anticipation. In my current favorite HBO series, True Blood, Bill Compton (Vampire) takes Souki(Mortal) into his arms and the calender goes, " You're so full of life, I want to drink it all up." But yet he cannot for he will kill her and loves her at the same time. Sometimes we just want to take it all in fully and savor it. You can have everything but not all at the same time innit? So I reckon if the vampires have the right attitude to practice restrain and sip it bit by bit and enjoy it drop by drop. Then, we mortal beings can take form our cup and not overwhelm our limited senses by being aware of our own part and choice in making that first taste last as long as possible.

Beginning is not only a kind of action. It is also a frame of mind, a kind of work, an attitude, a consciousness. ~ Edward Said

The start leads to the middle and the end but it is only part of the ebb and flow of life. How many self-help books wax lyrical and pay serious lip service to, Amen, I cringe as I use the word but however there are no two ways bout it. The journey. Still, didn't Lao Tze or Confucius say that the journey of a thousand miles begin with a single step. Fiona Apple's song "First Taste" (which was featured in True blood) sends a shimmering chill up my spine. Picture this right? the inescapable knowing look of "You know what's coming but you have no idea" is haunting just like how Bill Compton first sank his teeth into Souki's virgin neck and had his first taste of her blood and vice versa. Pass me a bottle of V, now cause it's too hot and I gotta run for shelter, I gotta run for shade. I guess the journey is worth going when you have the "You know what's coming but you have no idea."
