Ris Low Risk Losing All

So it is all over the press and on the news. Harry and I had to include this piece of news on our radio show as our listeners had a lot to say about it.

So if you have not been on the shores of Singapore recently, this is what happened in a nutshell. Miss Ris Low, Miss World Singapore was fist slammed for her poor command of English and following that a credit card fraud conviction was exposed.

She is 19 years old and is a young offender. As a teenager, the magnitude of this epsiode will surely be rather upsetting and tramautic for her. Especially since it came out in the press that she is diagnosed with Bio-polar.

My take? Her command of Enlgish is a reflection of what society is and a mirror onto what happens on a day to day basis. Her credit card fraud? Well, people make mistakes and Humanity is never as beautiful as when forgiveness is being practised. We had some interesting texts that I would like to share

TEXT 1 - LETS face it Ris Low will not bring back d titled crown 4 Spore in Dec. She wont b sorely missed if she's replaced. She will 'win' by startg 2 b honest within. I was a victim of credit card fraud. I was livid when it happened 2 me. Ris Low has 2 face d music.

TEXT 2 - SHE said she has managed to slip thru a few pageants but e past will always catch up with u. she shd know dat honesty is e best policy n I hope she will learn fm tis episode n try to come out a better person. I sincerely wish she can try to move on n all e be

TEXT 3 - BOOMZ is passe... I tink we should aim our cannons at Singapore Idiot for his screw up on our National Anthem !! :) Have a nice day !

TEXT 4 - RIS to her detractors:"Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I am not perfect & I don't live to be, but before you start pointing fingers... Make sure your hands are clean." Bob Marley

TEXT 5 - e kind soul who mntioned abt yellow ribbon prjct.. Thts purely singpre's bt nt @ international level.

TEXT 6 - OH please Miss Low Risk (punt intented) shouldnt even be winning any price, for her intelligence matches her face. Did she win as the others are worse? Heck there shouldnt even be a miss universe/world competition as it devalues women's equality.

TEXT 7- SHE has made a wise decision. Its better for her past to be revealed now than to be exposed during the international level. She would be disqualified then.

TEXT 8 - A message miss low, welcome to the real world. lesson 1 you may try to hide the truth but you should never denz. lesson 2 owning the crown comes with huge responsibilities aod clearly she cant deliver. hopefully she can take sumthing positive from this whole thing

TEXT 9 - AHHH, finally Ris Low decided to do the responsible thing!

TEXT 10 - WHAT happen to yellow ribbon that we sporean says gives others a second chance. What is done is done. Its 50 50 fault.

TEXT 11 - I think tt it's good that she resigned. She isn't just a former convict, to put it blindly. She is a convict who is still serving her term. If she gets to travel overseas on the basis tt she is a ms spore world, i think it's double standard to the max

TEXT 12 - COME on S'poreean. Come off yr high horses to err is human to 4give divine. Ris needs all the support at this very moment in time n not condemnation, the one to b blame is the organiser.

TEXT 13 - HARRY n g.i think miss loh in the first place should knw better herself nt to take part in the peageant Cause she herself knws she gt bi-pola.n wasted alot of monies n time.mr.tang

TEXT 14 - THE problem is singaporeans just love to complain. Why slam ris low publicly? Its our own fault that our miss universe/world's standards are so low. We don't support the pageants here, and there is a stigma of sorts attached to contestants. There are many gor

TEXT 15 - (...) 'Singaporeans did not pay for her' is just being defensive right from the get-go. As for Ris? She's got questions to answer, starting from how she wasn't as truthful as the rules required, but nevertheless was victimised in this whole issue. Let her qu

TEXT 16 - SINGAPOREANS have no compassion. We see the bad in others but not ourselves. +

TEXT 17 - WE are not a forgiving society are we?

TEXT 18 - QUESTION is whether her past makes any material diff to her candidacy. I think not. Where is the second chance?

TEXT 19 - METHINKS the organisers have been really irresponsible in this whole brouhaha, going by the kinds of answers they're reported to have given in the wake of the various discoveries. Seriously, to say something like 'Singaporeans did not pay for her' is just being de
